Prenatal Counseling and Care

For persons considering or planning to continue a pregnancy, provide initial counseling (including offering education on healthy prenatal practices, prescribing folic acid and reviewing urgent warning signs and symptoms).

It is expected that all pregnant people should be offered screening for STIs (such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, and HIV) and counseled about risk reduction strategies and potential risks to newborns. If needed, treatment should be provided in accordance with the most current CDC STI Treatment Guidelines.128
